A little known and somewhat strange fact about me is that I happen to think bats are irresistibly adorable. While my children shirk at the thought of running into one of these winged night-flying creatures, I secretly dream of bringing one home and letting him live in our closet, sleeping whilst hanging upside down from our clothing racks.

I find fruit bats, in particular, to be especially darling. No one else in our home seems to share these sentiments with me. The rest of the family tends to put bats more on the frightening end of the spectrum. I guess my dreams of having a pet bat will have to wait.

These little chocolate bats, however, satisfy all of our bat preferences. My kids get a spooky treat that they can gobble right up, and I get an edible chocolate friend.

That doesn’t sound right.

Regardless, these bats are an adorable Halloween treat that is simple to put together as well as creepily cute!

Makes 8 Mini Chocolate Bats

• ¼ cup HERSHEY’S Dark Chocolate Chips, melted
• 8 snack-sized HERSHEY’S Chocolate Bars, unwrapped
• 8 HERSHEY’S Nuggets, unwrapped
• 8 HERSHEY’S KISSES Chocolates, unwrapped
• 16 candy eyes
• 32 HERSHEY’S Mini Chocolate Chips
• Parchment paper
• Baking sheet

 

Step 1
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place a HERSHEY’S Nugget on the paper. Break or cut a HERSHEY’S chocolate bar into four pieces.

Step 2
Take one of the pieces of chocolate and dip the corner in the melted chocolate. Place it against the upper right corner of the HERSHEY’S Nugget. Dip another corner of a piece of HERSHEY’S bar in the melted chocolate, placing this piece at the right upper corner of the piece of bar that you just placed against the Nugget, tilting it upward slightly. Repeat this process on the other side of the Nugget to form the bat “wings.”

Step 3
Dip the bottom of a HERSHEY’S KISSES Chocolate in the melted chocolate. Place at the top of the Nugget so that the point of the KISSES Chocolate faces slightly downward.

Step 4
Dip the bottom of two candy eyes in the melted chocolate and place on top of the KISSES Chocolate, just above the point of the KISSES Chocolate.

Step 5
Dip the bottom of two mini chocolate chips in melted chocolate and place them on top of the HERSHEY’S KISSES Chocolate, above the eyes to form the ears of the bat.

Step 6
Dip the tips of two mini chocolate chips in melted chocolate and place them on the bottom of the Nugget to make the feet.

Step 7
Let the bats sit until set…this may take several hours. If you want them to set faster, pop them in the freezer. Keep in mind that they will melt faster once they come to room temperature if you choose this method.
