The web is awash with fall-themed DIYs, craft tutorials, and art projects right now, but  Kerstin Hiestermann’s playful Instagram images are exceptionally inspiring. Take a closer look and I’m sure you’ll agree….

Kerstin Hiestermann, or “Khiesti” as she’s known on Instagram, is a mother of three children, living near Hannover in Germany. She’s also “Spielkkind,” a child at heart, and when she’s not teaching pupils with learning difficulties, she’s performing magic with her iPhone, bringing nature back to life.

Kerstin obviously has a wonderful eye. She has always been able to see things in natural objects, visualizing funny stories and images in natural and man-made finds. Browse her Instagram picture gallery and you will discover an uplifting collection of simple, colorful collages often featuring a little monster that adds humor and brings the picture to life.

Kerstin’s imagination knows no bounds—like I said, the child in her is still alive. Her artwork can be based on one single leaf, a piece of driftwood, or four pink buttons. She’ll turn them into an endearing character, a zoo, or four little pigs.

I’m pretty sure that your kids will love Kerstin’s collage/illustrations. You’ll need to watch some of her beautiful videos with them, too. Pure visual poetry! I’d like to think that Kerstin’s artwork could inspire you to create your own compositions. Why don’t you go out with your children and collect some leaves, berries, acorns, or whatever you can find, then try and bring them to life on paper? Kids will love it!

Khiesti’s Instagram feed has grown incredibly popular in a short space of time, and she’s close to 1,000 followers on Facebook. She doesn’t have any specific qualifications in art or photography, so I think this success has taken her by surprise. Surely that must mean there’s still a child alive in me as well?
