I’ve lived in the upper midwest my whole life, but it wasn’t until this year that I heard of snow cream. Snow cream! Ice cream made out of snow! My children were beyond excited when we gathered the snow and turned it into delicious orange dreamsicle ice cream. Now we look forward to each and every snowfall.
Snow cream is just a simple mixture of fresh snow, sweetened condensed milk, and flavors of your choice. This version is based on an orange dreamsicle, but the possibilities are endless. Coffee, vanilla beans, other juices, and chocolate sauce can all be flavors. Have fun experimenting this winter!
Orange Dream Snow Cream
Inspired by the Beekman 1802 Heirloom Dessert Cookbook
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- ¾ cup orange juice
- 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 9 cups (clean) snow, or shaved ice
In a bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, orange juice, and vanilla extract. Set aside.
Place the snow in a large bowl and pour the sweetened condensed mixture on top of it. Using a fork, quickly mix the snow and milk mixture together, until completely combined.
Eat immediately (or set outside for a few minutes to re-chill).
Enjoy!
