As the owner of a family-friendly design firm (and a mom to a 3-year-old), I spend A LOT of time dreaming up magical spaces for kids to play, sleep, and learn in. I believe the perfect nursery or playroom should be fun and whimsical, to inspire creativity and daydreaming, but also practical and functional, to keep kids (and parents) organized and to help wrangle in those piles of stray books and toys.
I recently discovered French brand, Little Cabari, and fell head over heels for their chic but whimsical bedding, rugs, and textiles. They’ve shared with us photos of two gorgeous, girls’ bedrooms they designed for an apartment in Paris. Each features a different Little Cabari fabric and is the epitome of the playful/practical balance I strive for when creating rooms for the littles.
Little Cabari’s Mazurka pattern is the star of the show in this room. They’ve used it twice, in the curtains and the bedding, to make the entire room feel cohesive (but without looking too matchy-matchy). The polka dot curtain next to the bed brings in a complimentary pattern and creates a cozy sleeping nook, complete with a headboard shelf for photos, lamps, and bedside knick-knacks.
This amazing bed nook and upper loft will serve as a secret hideaway this room’s little occupant will remember all of her life. I love the way Little Cabari’s Jazz print is used for curtains and a throw pillow, alongside playful, star-print bedding. And those built-ins next to the bed are perfect for organizing books and decorative items, while still keeping precious toys close at hand.
I love how Little Cabari’s designers chose two bold hues from the fabric to use for the colors of the play chairs. When designing a nursery or playroom, textiles and rugs are a great place to start. Once you find a pattern and style you love, you can use it to determine your color scheme and the overall style of your space.
Seeing these incredible Paris rooms inspired me to put together a mood board for my own Little Cabari-inspired nursery design. Using their Songe Pink pattern as a jumping-off point, I created a space that combines the bright colors and fun patterns kids crave with the storage and organization items busy parents need!
