Summer has got to be my favorite season to host parties. This year happens to be my 40th birthday, so I’ve decided to throw an extra special party to celebrate! I’ve made a piñata, organized some outdoor games, and all that was left to do was figure out the party favors.
When I saw these styrofoam balls in my craft box, I knew I had to turn them into mini ice cream cone favors. Perfect for my summer party, I used the hollow cone as a place to hide fun treats for my party guests!
What You Need
- Colored construction paper
- Styrofoam balls
- Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Compass and pencil
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Wooden skewers
- Small treats (to fit inside)
How-To
Step 1
Use your compass to draw semicircles on construction paper. These styrofoam balls are 2” so I made the semicircles have a 6” diameter. Cut them out, making the curved edge wavy or scalloped if you like.
Step 2
Use the hot glue gun to form the semicircles into cones – as you do this, check to make sure that your styrofoam balls fit into the cone nicely like a scoop of ice cream does.
Step 3
Gently poke a wooden skewer into each stryofoam ball. Paint the balls in a rainbow of colors, holding the skewer so that you can paint all sides at once. Let dry.
Step 4
Fill the paper cones with treats and confetti, and then place the painted ball into the cone as a lid. Use a dab of hot glue to secure the ball in place if isn’t staying in on it’s own.
Happy crafting!
