These turtles are probably one of the simplest crafts I’ve ever made – you don’t need any fancy supplies and they’re super quick to make, but boy do they make an impact! Summer is an especially great time to make these DIY turtles because the dollar store seems to have even more plastic bowls than usual. I only wish I had thought of these in time for my dad’s birthday earlier this month – he has several pet tortoises, so these would have been the perfect decorations.
Decorate for a party by arranging these turtles all around the house for a fun safari adventure! You could even hide little treats or scavenger hunt clues under the shells for even more birthday fun!
What You Need
- Balloons (regular and water balloons) and pump
- Tape
- Black permanent marker
- Scissors
- Plastic bowls
How-To
Step 1
Pick the bowl you’ll use as your first shell and blow up a balloon to be the turtle’s head. Depending on the size of your bowl, you can use a water balloon for a smaller head or a regular balloon for a larger head. Tape the knot onto the edge of the bowl.
Step 2
For the turtle’s legs, use a balloon pump to blow up four water balloons. Tape them in place around the bowl.
Step 3
Blow up a slightly smaller water balloon for the tail and tape down.
Step 4
Draw a face onto the turtle’s head and voila! Repeat in a variety of colors.
Happy crafting!
