Have you ever wondered what pumpkin seeds do on Halloween? No? Well they’re here anyways to show you how excited they are! It’s dance party time!
I’ve seen these diorama-style plastic pumpkins at the craft store for a few years now, but this year I saw them and right away I knew I wanted to make a Halloween diorama, kind of like the peanut valentines I made earlier this year. This is such a silly and fun craft to make – there are no rules, so you and your kids can get really creative! The battery-operated string lights inside really light up too, perfect for Halloween night!
What You Need
- Plastic diorama-style pumpkin
- Black and orange crepe paper/streamers
- Battery operated string lights
- Hot glue gun
- Cardstock (black, plus others if desired)
- Cotton balls
- Tape
- Mini pom poms
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Wire cutters
- Beige felt
- Plastic coated wire
- Black permanent (optional)
How-To
Step 1
Cut two pumpkin seed shapes, about 1 1/2” tall, out of felt – you’ll need two for each pumpkin seed friend you plan on making.
Step 2
Use the hot glue gun to apply glue onto the inner edge of one piece of felt, attaching the other one on top. Stuff with cotton and glue the rest of the seed shut like a pillow.
Step 3
Hot glue googly eyes onto each seed and cut small happy mouths out of black cardstock, hot gluing those on too.
Step 4
Cut pieces of wire to be the seeds’ arms and legs. Hot glue them onto the back of each seed.
Step 5
If your plastic-coated wire wasn’t black to begin with, use a black permanent marker to color them black if desired.
Step 6
Use tape to hang your battery operated mini lights from the top of the pumpkin. I also taped the battery pack into the top and it wasn’t visible from the front.
Step 7
It’s decorating time! Cut orange and black streamers into thin lengths and tape to the inside of the pumpkin. I also taped a mini disco ball inside! Once the streamers are in place, arrange your pumpkin seed friends inside in various poses, bending their wire arms and legs. Use hot glue or clear tape to attach them inside. I also used colored cardstock and mini pom poms to make tiny party hats for them!
Happy Halloween!!
