With summer quickly approaching, I seem to have nature and camp crafts on the brain! Aren’t you getting excited for swimming weather, summer camp, and a little break from the usual routine?

I am also anticipating some sibling squabbles, since summer break means lots and LOTS of family time! I really can’t get enough of it on the short weekends, but too much can lead to bickering and tears at my house. My goal is to keep the kids busy with the usual summer break activities, but when there is rain in the forecast, I plan to host some “crafternoons”. The more activities you have up your sleeve, the less time there will be for arguments!

A rainy day is the perfect opportunity to invite some friends over for a day of creativity and crafting. Why not make colorful God’s Eyes out of yarn and sticks, and then serve these edible God’s Eye cupcakes? You’ll be the coolest Mom on the block! …or babysitter, camp counsellor, Grandma, or Dad! Of course, these would be darling for a craft, boho, or camp themed party too!

• Cupcakes with white frosting
• Cupcake icing in multiple colors
• Pretzel sticks (2 per cupcake)
• Knife

Step 1
You will need two pretzel sticks for each cupcake – I used Snyder’s and they were the perfect thickness and length. Cut one directly in half using a knife.

Step 2
Place the full size pretzel stick in the middle of the cupcake. Place the two halves perpendicular to the full pretzel stick, also in the middle of the cupcake. Basically, you will have a little plus sign out of pretzels!

Step 3
Choose an icing color and, starting in the very center of your plus sign, squeeze the icing out using the plain round tip. Create concentric diamond shapes by making straight lines with the frosting, from one pretzel fragment to the next. Create about 2-3 diamonds in the first color, with each point of the diamond resting on one pretzel fragment of the plus sign.

Step 4
Starting where you just left off with the first color, create 2-3 more diamonds using a second icing color.

Step 5
Repeat step 4 using one or two more colors, depending on how much room you have left on the cupcake. It’s fun to experiment with different color schemes on each one! End your final diamond point on any pretzel, and leave a little bit of pretzel stick showing on each end.
