Pasta’s never been so cute! We love using pasta for crafting (remember this giant macaroni necklace party?) and today’s project couldn’t be easier. Give that leftover pasta in the pantry a colorful makeover perfect for your next party.
Kids (and adults!) will have so much fun arranging the pasta into fun designs and patterns on the cake stands and then paint them in whatever colors you want to match your party theme! Plus, these are super affordable to make so you could totally make a whole ton of them and have a massive dessert display without breaking the bank.
what you need:
- Uncooked pasta (various types)
- Plastic cups
- Hot glue gun
- Paper / plastic plates
- Folk Art Acrylic Paint
how-to:
Step 1
Hot glue pasta noodles onto a plastic cup.
Step 2
Play around with different types of pasta and different designs, patterns, and layouts.
Step 3
For the cake stands pictured, we used cups of three different heights and attached pasta in different patterns for a mix-and-match look. You may need to cut or break some of the pasta noodles to complete your design as planned – you can see that we had to do that for the cup on the right.
Step 4
Paint the cups. Use multiple light coats and move the cup around to cover from all angles. There can be some sneaky nooks and crannies in and around the pasta. Let dry completely.
Step 5
Depending on how you plan on using the cake stands, you have a few options: for these ones pictured we simply placed a regular white plate on top of the cups. If you want something a bit more secure, use the hot glue gun to attach a paper or plastic plate on top of the pasta-covered cup.
Happy crafting!
