Get ready for panda-monium to hit your kitchen! These colorful panda pops are a super fun summer treat to make with kids and thanks to donut holes, these pops don’t require any baking at all. We don’t know about you, but we’re huge fans of anything no-bake in the hotter summer months!
Of course, you can use any colors you want to decorate your panda pops but we couldn’t resist rainbow-fying them. So grab some donut holes and candy melts and let’s get decorating!
what you need:
- Plain donut holes
- Candy melts (white and assorted colors)
- Black food coloring gel
- Cake pop sticks
- Toothpicks
- Wax paper
- Cooling rack
how-to:
Step 1
Set up your work area. You’ll want to create a sort-of cake pop drying stand – to do this, set two bowls down and place your cooling rack on top. Make sure that the cooling rack sits lower than the height of the cake pop sticks.
Step 2
Warm the white candy melts in a bowl. Do this in the microwave with the power set at medium, working in 30 second increments. Stir in-between to prevent burning, until smooth and melted.
Step 3
Gently pierce a stick into the base of a donut hole. Keep in mind the shape of the head – everyone has a good side, and you can help make sure your rainbow pandas are all looking their best. ;) Dip the donut hole into the melted white chocolate, using a spoon to help cover it completely, smoothing if necessary to remove any excess. Carefully place into the cooling rack so that the panda pop stands vertically without touching or falling over onto the cooling rack.
Note: You can also use a piece of styrofoam or short mugs/glasses to do this step if you prefer.
Step 4
Repeat step 3 for as many panda pops as needed, letting the candy melts harden completely.
Step 5
Place a small handful of colored candy melts into a small bowl and melt in the microwave the same way as before. Use a toothpick (or tip of a butter knife) to apply two oblong ovals onto the front of the pop, forming the panda’s two eye patches. Set back into the cooling rack to harden. Repeat this with the remaining panda pops using as many colors as you like.
Step 6
On a piece of wax paper, make two small D shapes of each color of candy melt. These will be the pandas’ ears! Allow them to harden, placing in the fridge to speed this step up if desired.
Step 7
Once the panda pop are hardened and dry to the touch, use a toothpick and black food coloring gel to draw on the two eyes and a small mouth and nose.
Step 8
Use a clean toothpick to carefully carve a small groove onto each side of the panda’s head, about the side of the ears. Carefully place one ear in each slot – we found they stayed secure this way, but a few careful dabs of extra white candy melt along the back will help keep them in place even better.
Repeat this for all the panda pops.
Enjoy!
