Do you remember making tissue ghosts when you were a kid? They come together so quickly and are a super affordable way to decorate for Halloween! I remember we used to use markers to draw faces onto our tissue paper ghosts, but unfortunately the markers would inevitably bleed a little bit on the tissue paper so the ghosts’ faces didn’t always look so tidy. Instead, use black paper and a hole punch and your ghosts will be in tip-top condition!

This wreath is super simple and quick to make and we’re betting your kids will love helping out! You can even make a few extra ghosts to decorate around the house!

• Embroidery hoop (or similar)
• Hot glue guns
• Ping pong / styrofoam balls
• Black paper
• Hole punch

Step 1
Begin by gathering your ping pong balls or styrofoam balls for the ghosts’ heads – you can absolutely use whatever you have on hand here, so smaller and larger sizes are great as they make for different looking ghosts. If you don’t happen to have ping pong or styrofoam balls in your craft stash, you can also just crumple up a tissue into a ball and use that instead!

Whatever ball you end up using, wrap another tissue around it, pinching it slightly at the base of the head forming a ghost shape. Apply a dab of hot glue (make sure to use the low-temperature setting if using styrofoam balls) and then press the gathered tissue into the glue. This will help keep the tissue in a ghost shape.

Repeat this process until you have a handful of ghosts.

Note: if using ping pong or styrofoam balls, you can easily disassemble this wreath after Halloween is over and reuse the balls for another craft.

Step 2
Once you have a bunch of ghosts ready to go, lay your embroidery hoop flat on your work surface and loosely arrange the ghosts on it. This will let you know if you need to make more ghosts to cover the hoop. Once you’re happy with the arrangement, apply small dabs of glue to secure each ghost in place.

Note: Before beginning, we wrapped our hoop with white ribbon. This is optional but a good thing to do if, like us, you’re repurposing an embroidery hoop that was previously used in another craft and isn’t in perfect condition but also to better disguise the hoop with the ghosts.

Step 3
Finally, use a hole punch (or confetti paper punch for various sizes) to cut circles out of black paper. Stick them onto each ghost with glue and your wreath is ready to hang!

Because tissue is one of the main materials here, this wreath is best suited for inside use but may work on exterior doors too as long as your door is covered with some sort of shelter or overhang.
