It seems that people either love, or absolutely hate candy corn. Whether you’re on “team yuck” or “team yum”, you can probably admit that it still makes you think of fall…and it’s kind of cute, right? If you’re hosting a Halloween or fall party this year, these little candy corn place card holders are fun and festive!
After the party, they are adorable photo holders to add to your fall décor. Not only are they easy to make, but you can use them over and over again! I made these for my daughter who is on “team yum”, and can’t wait to display them on her shelf.
what you need:
- Wooden cone
- Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint (orange, yellow, and white)
- Washi tape
- Sponge brush
- 16 gauge wire
- Scissors
how-to:
Step 1
Place a piece of Washi tape slightly over ½” from the bottom of your cone (the wide end). Go all the way around the cone, until the ends meet up perfectly, and overlap. Press it down as much as possible. Try to smooth out any wrinkles. Use a sponge brush to paint the bottom section yellow. You may need a few coats of paint. Allow to dry.
Step 2
Peel up the Washi tape. Now place a fresh piece of tape about 5/16” from the top of the cone, all the way around, and smooth the tape out as much as possible. Press it down so that paint does not seep through any holes. Paint the top section of the cone using white. Allow to dry.
Step 3
Peel up the Washi tape. Once the yellow and white paint is completely dry, place a piece of Washi tape at the edge of both colors, going all the way around the cone. Paint the middle section orange, and allow to dry before peeling up both pieces of tape.
Step 4
Cut a 6 1/4” piece of 16 gauge wire, and form one end into a small “swirl”. Fold up a ½” piece on the opposite end. Push that end into the hole at the top of your wooden candy corn, until it is nicely wedged into place. Now you may slip a place card or photo into the swirl “clip” at the top.
Happy fall, and happy crafting!
