Here’s a fun craft tutorial inspired by vintage string holders. I love those cute pottery heads with strings coming out of their mouths like they’re eating spaghetti. So fun!

String holders are super handy to have around for craft projects, whether you’re crocheting, tying up a package, or simply keeping string and cord organized. I hope you enjoy these little guys!

Materials

• Printable template (download here)
• Jar
• Wine cork
• Punch
• Scissors
• Utility knife
• Hot-glue gun
• Gloss enamel paint (brush or spray)

Depending on how you want to decorate your string holder, you may also need the following:

• Marker
• Acrylic paint
• Paintbrush
• Felt
• Wiggle eyes

Instructions

Step 1
Punch a hole in the lid of the jar and cut the wine cork in half.

Step 2
Paint the jar and lid using gloss enamel paint.

Step 3
Place the two halves of wine cork on a flat surface as shown in the picture and set the jar on top of them. Glue the wine corks to the jar using your glue gun.

Step 4
Paint the wine corks.

Step 5
Now it’s time to decorate the jar. You can keep things simple by gluing pom pons, wiggle eyes, and felt to the jar. Download the template here and choose the design you like the most.

If you’re feeling adventurous, paint some funny faces! I recommend using acrylic paint on the enameled top. That way, you can easily rub off any mistakes with your finger. After painting, varnish it once to protect the finish.
