Welcome to the home of photographer Jenny Brandt, co-author of the well-loved Dos Family blog. She and her husband Jens, a graphic designer, bought the Sweden-based house in poor condition and completely renovated the property, making it the perfect home for their family of four.
Jenny has a seemingly endless supply of great decorating tips and ideas, especially for those with small kids in the home, and admits she always gets a kick out of cheap and clever solutions. Here are a few of our favorite tips from Jenny.
Painting second-hand furniture in high-gloss paint give them a modern and contemporary look. We also absolutely adore the flea-market bought robots painted in gold spray paint and arranged as floor sculptures/totems.
To gain space, Jenny built a bookcase around a door frame: all the family and children books can be stored; it also adds a beautiful feature to the room.
In the entryway, Jenny and Jens reupholstered themselves an old bench with stuffing, some foam and a funky pattern fabric. The bench is no longer an unused accent piece, but a useful piece for children when they storm in and out of the house.
Jenny and Jens also built a small MDF [medium density fiber] board house in one of their child’s room, added a few cushions and toys. What a cozy little corner for their toddler Frank!
Parting advice from Jenny : “Our home is growing with the children, and my moods! Today it looks like this, tomorrow, the rooms might have traded functions.” In Jenny’s world, there are no rules, just trials and daring moves that make a house a truly unique and cozy home full of personality.
