You’ve probably heard of the evil eye before and how it can cause bad luck to those it’s directed at. How about instead of an evil eye, we made a good luck eye charm that brings happiness to all those it sees? Making these simple eye-shaped charms out of pipe cleaners is super quick and you probably already have all the supplies you need to get started!
what you need:
- Pipe cleaners (black, green, and blue)
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Safety pins
what you need:
Step 1
Begin by bending up about 3/4″ at the end of a full-length black pipe cleaner, and then folding the pipe cleaner in half.
Step 2
Form the pipe cleaner into an oval with two pointed ends, using that 3/4″ pipe cleaner tab to twist to secure the shape.
Step 3
Time to add eyelashes! Take a second black pipe cleaner and twist one end to the pointed end of the oval to secure.
Step 4
Trim off the excess pipe cleaner so that you’re left with about 3/4″ attached, like a single eyelash. Repeat this process along the top edge of the oval eye, keeping the eyelashes as evenly spaced as you can.
Step 5
Repeat and make a whole bunch of eyes out of black pipe cleaners in the same way!
Step 6
To make the iris, pick out a colored pipe cleaner – you can use any color you like, but we used shades of green and blue so that all the charms matched. Gently shape the pipe cleaner into a circle, checking that it fits snugly into the black pipe cleaner eye shape that you’ve already made. Twist the colored pipe cleaner together to secure as a circle and trim the excess pipe cleaner away.
Step 7
Apply the tiniest dab of hot glue to the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock spots on the iris and carefully place into the black pipe cleaner eye. Press together to secure the glue in place. You can also use white glue here if you prefer, but remember to set them aside to dry completely.
If you want to use the eyes as backpack charms, brooches, or pins, simply loop a safety pin around the pipe cleaner and pin into place!
Happy crafting!
