I know I’m stating the obvious, but I love kids’ design. It’s one of my passions, and keeping abreast of the latest trends is a big part of my life. Blogging allows me to share my discoveries with like-minded readers, and occasionally leads me to a wonderful online universe like Ta.Ta. – Unconventional Design for Kids.
Created in February 2013 by two Italian working moms, the Ta. Ta. blog aims to “explore the unconventional, multi-faceted and kaleidoscopic world of children”. The authors want it to be a “creative jar”, a space for exchanging skills and knowledge, hopefully generating new synergies and collaborations. They actively encourage product submissions and have their finger on the pulse of the Italian design world in particular.
Large Ceramic Dinosaur
Designed by Brett Kern
Looks inflatable, doesn’t it? New-to-me artist Brett Kern makes and sells a terrific collection of large ceramic dinosaurs that would look fabulous on display in a modern kid’s room. Made to order and available on Etsy, these dinosaurs also come in a much-cheaper postcard form for framing.
Cute Cat Radiator
Designed by Meneghello Paolelli for Ridea
Isn’t this adorable? Perhaps you prefer Wolly the Friendly Walrus? Ridea’s multi-functional Schema range would make a fun feature in a child’s space. They’ve even thought of a cat collar towel warmer model for bathrooms! Check out the company’s website for stockists and further information.
Playmobilia Stools
Designed by Tania Da Cruz
Do these stools look familiar? Tania Da Cruz’s Playmobilia seating range was inspired by the headpieces of the ever-popular Playmobil toys. The Portuguese designer’s three prototypes were exhibited in Milan this year and are sure to prove successful with young and old alike!
Cardboard Bedside Tables
Designed by Popmecca
I can never resist sharing cardboard designs, especially when they’re as fun as Georgio Scaletti’s. Popmecca’s kids’ furniture and toys are original, sustainable and made entirely from recycled cardboard. Georgio also likes to involve children in the creative design process by organizing workshops in kindergartens and schools. Follow his facebook page to find out more.
Rocking Bench
Designed by Lanzavecchia + Wai
Last but by no means least, creative duo Lanzavecchia + Wai’s two seesaws Rocker No. 1 and Rocker No. 2 were designed for people of all ages. L+W aimed to demonstrate how children’s play, through a sophisticated design process, can be transformed into refined grownup objects with meaning and intent. Minimal and strikingly beautiful, I would love one in my living room!
