At our house, if my meals could speak, they’d probably say “Eat it. It’s good for you.” Or maybe “I Heart Leftovers.” Well, this Valentine’s Day, I have a fun and easy way to serve the perfect message on a plate: Talking Tortilla Rollups!
Just use mini-alphabet and heart-shaped cookie cutters to spell out a special message on flour tortilla shells, then use them to roll up your favorite ingredients. I used cream cheese and jalapeño in mine, but they’d work great with peanut butter and jelly or apple pie filling and cinnamon too.
Let’s make a meal or snack for your Valentine that speaks for itself.
Ingredients: Cream Cheese & jalapeño Tortilla Rollups
- 11.5-ounce container of whipped Philadelphia Cream Cheese
- 4-ounce can of diced jalapeños
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 3 extra-large tortilla shells (these worked the best!)
- Mini cookie cutters (found in most craft & hobby stores)
Step 1
Mix the cream cheese, jalapeños, and shredded cheese together.
Step 2
Starting a few inches down from the top of your tortilla shell, press your hearts or letters in a straight line. BUT DO NOT CUT THROUGH COMPLETELY! Leave the bottom edge of each heart or letter attached. (Placing your tortilla shells on the edge of your counter or a cutting board helps.)
Step 3
After cutting the shapes, flip the tortilla over and spread 3 to 4 tablespoons of your mixture on the shell.
Step 4
Starting at the bottom, roll up the tortilla, making sure you roll it straight so that the cut hearts or letters are aligned.
Step 5
Using a toothpick, lift and fold the shapes or letters upright. (They should stay up, but you can also prop them up temporarily with toothpicks and remove them before serving.)
Step 6
Cut the rollups into bite-sized servings.
Step 7
Display and present your edible message to your loved ones!
Enjoy!
